What is Google Plus

Google’s Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt writes the following in his book, “The Digital Age” published April 23, 2013:

“Within search results, information tied to verified online profiles will be ranked higher than content without such verification, which will result in most users naturally clicking on the top (verified) results. The true cost of remaining anonymous, then, might be irrelevance.”

Benefits of a Google Plus Individual (Agent) Profile:

Google Plus is that verified online profile Eric Schmidt is talking about, and it is the future of Internet marketing. Verified search connected to authoritative sources that are highly relevant to you is what Google is working towards. With Search Plus Your World Google is successfully integrating the many aspects of your activity Online, and generating increasingly more relevant results for each individual. Basically Google’s new default search is a personalized one also called semantic search, and at the heart of Google semantic search is Google Plus!

Google is constantly gathering data on you, and using that data to help provide you with exactly what you need when you need it. Google Plus helps Google understand you and your needs in very meaningful ways, and is the center piece of a growing Google Internet which strives to provide you ever more relevant information.

Google also sees semantic personalized search as a way to remove the incentive to game their ranking system. Basically building a legitimate Google Plus profile, with real Online authority, takes more time and effort than it’s worth to do illegitimately. This disincentive to be “spammy” is one of the many benefits to a more social semantic Internet.

As search becomes more social and semantic the importance of Google Plus will grow. For example Google currently indexes each and every post in Google Plus. In fact Google Plus profiles actually have a Page Rank (1-10) just as websites do.

In this manner posts on Google Plus are ranked in much the same way as an individual webpage, and will actually display in Google search. This benefit to Google Plus is very important to Online marketers or anyone Online who wishes to gain authority and influence.

Google Plus and Authorship

A major benefit of Google+ is Google Authorship which enables a rich snippet of the authors profile photo to display in search results. This rich snippet benefits the author directly by increasing the number of clicks on their particular link in Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). For example search results with a good Authorship image have been shown to increase clicks 35% or more as seen in this Moz article by Cyrus Shepard.

Ranking #1 in Google search isn’t the priority it used to be, but getting more clicks takes center stage. With Authorship’s rich snippet your content will see increased Click Through Rates (CTR). Along with increasing CTR Google Authorship helps an individual build authority and influence Online. In today’s increasingly connected world authority and influence are new kinds of commodity.

Social signals are gaining in importance and ranking can be boosted by a highly regarded G+ user simply clicking to plus one a particular piece of content. So by finding influencers and interacting with them on Google Plus you can greatly extend the reach of your content Online. This ranking boost comes from two key places. One is the increased exposure of your own G+ profile, and two the increase in the reach of your content as a result of that increased exposure.

Just another Social Network?

Google Plus is not just another social network. G+ is the central point for building relevance and authority Online. As an Online Marketer Authority Online and relevance are like gold to you. These two factors help more people hear what you have to say, and help Google more effectively connect your content with those people who want to see it. One of Google’s central goals is to provide you with the most helpful and relevant information possible at exactly the time that you need it most. This places Google Plus at the forefront of Google’s mission, and should place it at the forefront of your Online marketing strategy.
